With the start of a new year, that of course means that the JANUARY 15th application deadline for the scholarships of the Greater Denfeld Foundation is just around the corner.
Class of 2026 seniors may still think “graduation is months away” but the Scholarship Selection Committees need these months to properly do their work. This mid January deadline gives them time to gather final supporting documents, interview applicants, fully review materials and convene several meetings before the May 21 DHS Honor Night.
The application is rather involved – not something an applicant can complete in an hour or two – so the Selection Committees urge students to start early. While there are the “quick and easy” questions (your Zip Code, your sibling’s name, etc) there are also several essay questions which will require time, effort and proofreading. Please dig in and do it now!
Similarly – please don’t wait until the last minute to click “Submit”. Every year the committee hears tales of woe about technical problems precluding a timely submission, but those are not accepted. The absolutely final moment to submit is 11:59pm on January 15th, but please get it done earlier that day or that week. This is especially important considering Denfeld has a semester end about the same time and everyone is busy.

Another important part of the application is the Letters of Recommendation. Every applicant is required to submit two and they too are due on January 15th. Needless to say, requesting your letters early (in person and thru the applicant portal), and providing your reference time to write a good letter is a good strategy,
The generosity and variety of scholarships provided by the GDF is truly amazing and the Foundation is very happy to be able to provide them, but it is a competitive process. Students need to put their best foot forward through the application and NOW is the time to make that happen.
Please cash in on all the hard work you’ve put forth during your time at Denfeld!!
