As we look back on September 2nd—what would have been the 100th birthday of Armond Hauge, the Greater Denfeld Foundation’s largest benefactor—we are shining the spotlight on the champions who turned his legacy into unstoppable momentum.
Meet Ariana Ferguson, a former Denfeld High School graduate who took the grit, hustle, and support from the Hauge Scholarship and threw it into high gear—stepping out of Duluth and straight into the spotlight as an artist, performer, and professional wrestler!
Laying the Groundwork for Success
Heading off to a powerhouse institution like Northwestern University takes drive, focus, and relentless work ethic. But when you don’t have to constantly worry about the financial pressure holding you back, you can truly put everything you’ve got into the ring.
“Receiving the Hauge scholarship not only relieved my financial pressure, but allowed me to feel confident in my ability to create opportunities for myself and achieve recognition for my hard and consistent work,” Ariana says. “It gave me the ability to prioritize my education and have the things I needed without worrying about money.”
During four years at Northwestern, Ariana went all-in. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication (majoring in Dance with a minor in Art, Theory, and Practice), served as the Artistic Director for Refresh Dance Crew, was featured in Northwestern Magazine’s Grads to Celebrate ‘24, and landed the prestigious Lucia Wiant Award for outstanding artistic growth.
Taking the World by Storm
If you think Ariana slowed down after graduation, think again. Today, she is based out of Los Angeles, living out a high-octane life as a multi-talented artist, dancer, actor, and professional wrestler.
If you tune into Season 4 of Women of Wrestling (WOW) on television, you’ll catch Ariana bringing the intensity to the screen as Arianna Gambino—performing as both a professional wrestler and manager. Check out Season 5 of WOW coming soon!
When she isn’t in the ring with WOW, she is focused on building a strong foundation in stunt/combat training and acting. Her days include training in sword fighting and combat for stage/film with Sword Fights Incorporated, taking pilates classes and karate lessons, landing acting gigs, and taking on background work. Through all the training, she always loves to spend time with friends and family.
The Power of Believing in Yourself
For Ariana, storytelling and movement are her ultimate passions, with the support from Armond Hauge’s incredible legacy giving her the confidence to step up, take big swings, and conquer every arena she enters.
“The scholarship gave me both support and confidence, and serves as a reminder of where I came from, my time at Denfeld and home in Duluth – and the exciting feeling of all I have yet to experience.” Ariana reflects.
From the halls of Denfeld to the main stage in Los Angeles, Ariana is proving that with hard work, consistency, and a solid support system, there’s no limit to what you can achieve!
