Happy 100th Birthday Armond Hauge!

August 18, 2026

The Greater Denfeld Foundation is excited to celebrate the 100th birthday of its most generous benefactor. Although he has now passed, Armond Hauge was born on September 2, 1926 – exactly 100 years ago – and so this fall the foundation is eager to share the impacts of his generosity. Thanks to his lifetime of hard work, more than 400 Denfeld High School students have received renewable scholarships to support their post-Denfeld education. Today we will start a series of posts showing the impact of Mr. Hauge’s gift on 15+ years of Denfeld graduates. See the STORIES PAGE the first of those posts….  But first a little more about Mr. Hauge.

Armond Hauge started working at a young age, delivering papers for the Duluth Herald and News Tribune and was quickly recognized for his hard work and strong work ethic. This industriousness continued through his youth and into his time at Denfeld High School. After graduation Mr. Hauge began working as a mechanic for several Duluth Ford dealerships, most consistently for Ryland Ford. He retired in 1989.

Mr. Hauge never married and had no children but had a passion for education and wanted to find a way to provide opportunities to local youth. He came of age in a time when post secondary education wasn’t necessary to make a living, but he had the foresight to know a time would come when more education would be needed to match the demands in a growing economy. He wanted students from Denfeld to have the ability to participate in this growth because he was confident they would contribute positively to society.

After his death in 2006, he gifted $3.2 million to the students of Denfeld High School to help them continue their education. The endowment created from those funds traditionally selects 25 graduates for a 4-year renewable scholarship each year. Students are able to use the scholarship to cover educational expenses with no restrictions on their field of study.

Through the generosity of Armond Hauge and others like him, the Greater Denfeld Foundation is able to continue supporting the education and futures of Denfeld graduates. Over the next several weeks we will feature stories from a handful of Hauge scholarship recipients, reflecting how Mr. Hauge’s gift has transformed lives in ways no one could have imagined.
