As we count down to September 2nd—the 100th birthday of Armond Hauge, the Greater Denfeld Foundation’s As we approach September 2nd—what would have been the 100th birthday of Armond Hauge, —we are celebrating the incredible ripple effect of his generosity across 15+ years of Denfeld High School graduates.
Today, we are honored to feature Lindsey Gatlin (Redenbaugh), a 2012 Denfeld graduate who used the momentum from the Hauge Scholarship to earn her degree in just three years, graduate debt-free, and dedicate her career to strengthening local communities through non-profit leadership.
Turning Possibility into Reality
For many high school students, the dream of attending a four-year university comes with daunting financial uncertainty—especially for those navigating the process for the first time.
“In high school, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to attend university without the help of scholarships like the Hauge,” Lindsey recalls. “My parents did not attend college, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to pay for school on my own. Receiving scholarships like the Hauge made it possible for me to attend college and study communications.”
Knowing that community donors believed in her potential gave Lindsey the confidence to hit the ground running at the University of Wisconsin–Stout. Driven and focused, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Professional Communication and Emerging Media in just three years—and graduated completely debt-free.
A Career Rooted in Community Impact
Entering the workforce without the weight of student loans allowed Lindsey the flexibility to align her career with her passion for serving others.
“It made a huge difference to enter the workforce without that debt hanging over me and gave me the flexibility to work at nonprofit organizations that I truly believe in,” Lindsey explains. “It instilled in me a desire to stay engaged and give back to my community.”
Today, Lindsey serves locally as the Senior Manager of Executive Operations and Projects for True North Goodwill. Never one to stop growing, she is currently continuing her educational journey by working toward a Master’s Degree in Non-Profit Leadership and Management.
