Continuing to celebrate Armond Hauge’s 100th birthday on September 2, 2026, we are reflecting on how his foresight has helped 403 DHS graduates pursue higher education without being weighed down by overwhelming debt.
For Kylie LeMay (Class of 2021), that legacy provided the exact foundation she needed to dedicate herself to the demanding field of healthcare.
Balancing Academics and Ambition
After graduating from Denfeld, Kylie headed to the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire to study Kinesiology and Exercise Science. This past May 2026, she proudly earned her Bachelor of Science degree—a milestone that required intense study and clinical coursework.
While many college students find themselves forced to work excessive hours just to cover tuition, the Armond Hauge Scholarship provided Kylie with $3,000 each year to help ease that strain.

“Knowing that I would receive support throughout my four years of college gave me a sense of financial security,” Kylie shares. “Although I still worked throughout each semester, I didn’t feel pressured to take on extra hours just to cover school expenses. Instead, I was able to maintain a healthier balance between work and coursework, allowing me to focus on my education and succeed academically.”
Looking Ahead to Cardiac Rehabilitation
That balance paid off. Having completed an internship at a local senior center where she continues to work today, Kylie is preparing to launch directly into UW–Eau Claire’s graduate program in exercise physiology this fall. Her goal? Spending the next two years earning her advanced degree to build a career in cardiac rehabilitation.
For Kylie, receiving the Hauge Scholarship was about more than just financial relief—it was proof that her hometown community believed in her future.
“It reminded me that my hard work was recognized and that others believed in my potential,” says Kylie. “The Hauge Scholarship motivated me to pursue opportunities that will help me build a successful future.”
Happy 100th Birthday, Mr. Hauge—thank you for investing in scholars like Kylie who spend every day giving back to others.
